Teso has been reported to have the highest number of school drop outs both boys and girls. Many factors have been attributed to this. Some of which are early pregnancies, lack of school fees, family burdens (child headed households) among others.
The same region is endowed with natural resources that can be tapped by these group of individuals, However there is limited awareness of the opportunities that the area presents for these teenagers.
Since not many of them own land, they could be trained in some crafts and small scale value addition which they can engage after schools to earn extra incomes to keep them in school. The girls are the most fragile group in these category, these could be trained in product development of some agricultural crops and animal products which need less input but are abundant.
Beekeeping is also suitable for these teenagers since they have less time and the enterprise is seasonal requiring minimal routine inspection. These money when earned can be timely to keep a teenager in school
